GUARDIANS of the GALAXY VOL 2 -review

Guardians of the Galaxy VOL 2

If you are a movie fan, you loved Guardians of the Galaxy as much as I did. Guardians written and directed by St. Louis native James Gunn was fresh, fun, and just what the Marvel Universe needed in 2014. The only problem I will say I have with Guardians 2 is once you have seen the trick you know what is coming, and the second time won’t be as fresh. This being said Guardians 2 is amazing, and if you love movies, you will love Guardians 2.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 brings back the great sound track, not as great as one, but almost as good. The team is back Peter “Star Lord” Quill (Chris Pratt) is the self inflated leader of the band of misfits, that came together in Guardians 1 to save the Galaxy. Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), baby Groot (Vin Diesel) are all part of this team that has so much chemistry it oozes off the screen. This is what made Guardians one a success and will be the reason everyone will love 2. We also have Yondu (Michael Rooker) leader of a group of R avengers, and Nebula (Karen Gillan) Gamora’s sister who wants to kill Gamora and their father Thanos, are both back.

Enter Ego (Kurt Russell) who opens the movie with some great CGI in Missouri with the song Brandy You’re a Fine Girl playing with him romancing Peter’s mother. This is when the adventure starts, and it doesn’t stop until after the 5 credit scenes, yes I said 5. Ego is not only Peter’s father, but also a Planet/ God. He travels with Mantis (Pom Klementieff) who can read peoples emotions.

The one problem in the middle of this film I had was Gunn split the team up, this is what we all love to see, I know why with the story and having more of Yondu, but I really liked when the whole team was together. There is fun, action, romance, and comedy, just like in the first guardians.

Lots of the story lines get tied up, Peter and his father, Gamora and Nebula, and even Rocket and Yondu find out they are a lot alike. I still think this is a great and fun movie, but it comes just a little short in beating the first one. Yes Drax gets more screen time, and so does Baby Groot who is awesome, and you and your kids will love them. I grade Guardians an A just under the first one that I graded an A+.
