LONDON HAS FALLEN – review

LONDON HAS FALLEN

One of the surprise fun and successful flicks from the year 2013 was Olympus has Fallen that had Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) had to help save President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) when Terrorists attack Washington and kidnap the President.  Well Mike is back and this time Terrorists have attacked London and gone after the President. London5

We do get a new director in London with Babek Najafi and he does not hold back on tearing up London, lots of explosions and destruction which I am sure you can get from the title of the flick.  There is a lot of action and lots of gore and death, but not so great on dialogue or plot.  I don’t think the dialogue or plot issues ruin this flick, because Olympus had the same issues we don’t go to this type of flick for dialogue or real feeling plot.  London3

Mike and his wife Leah (Radha Mitchell) are expecting their first child.  While Mike is thinking about retiring from the Secret Service the London Prime Minister dies and all the Heads of state from around the world are traveling to London for the Funeral.

Terrorist arms dealer Aamir Barkawi (Alon Aboutboul) attack London and kill all the Heads except for the President.  This is in retaliation for killing his daughter.  Mike and Lynne Jacobs (Angela Bassett) who is the Secret Service Director are on their own to protect the President.  London6

While the President is in jeopardy Vice President Trumbull (Morgan Freeman) is in the USA trying to help on his end.  He sits in the room and mainly says some bad lines, but they sound better because they are said by Freeman they come off better.  London4

Kamran Barkawi (Waleed Zuaiter) is the mastermind behind the attack and has one major plan.  The plan is to kidnap the President and kill him on youtube.  Of course, Mike has other plans and takes out I am guessing around 100 terrorists and the action is a little silly and video game like.

I grade the flick a solid C.  It is a Fun flick, and I can see a 3rd installment on it’s way because we need these mindless action flicks.  Butler has fun in the actions as does Eckhart they don’t have to ACT but just do their bad dialogue and good action scenes.
