If you know me, you know I have been a die hard Star Wars Fan my whole life.  This being said, I was nervous going into the special screening of The Force Awakens on Tuesday morning.  Why?  I will tell you why, I was extremely disappointed in the last three Star Wars flicks we have seen.   Episode one, two, and three all did not give us the Star Wars feel we got when watching 4,5,and 6 when we were growing up.  force6

The Force Awakens brings back the original cast, and if anyone can bring this franchise back to life on the big screen it is Director J.J. Abrams.  I was hoping going in that we would see the “Spirit” of 4,5, and 6 show up in Force Awakens.  Yes, it helped that the main group of actors from the original flicks do return, but we also get the humor, and feel the energy that we loved from 4,5, and 6.force3

As Abrahms did with relaunching the Star Trek franchise, Force Awakens is a great flick that is a homage to Star Wars 4 A New Hope.  We get all the crazy and bizarre creatures, the x-wing vs T.I.E fighter battles, and the good vs evil plot.  force2

We do get to meet new characters that will continue to bring the new trilogy to life onto the screen.   Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is the new villain.  He worships Darth Vader and wants to finish what he started killing the last Jedi Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).  The difference between Kylo and Darth is that Kylo actually takes his helmet off a few times in the flick, and that you can see he is struggling between the force and the dark-side.  Kylo does have a huge army he is leading and a Master that is pulling his strings, much like Vader had in 4,5, and 6.  This army is now called The First Order.  The First Order has the same goal as the Empire did, and that is to take over the universe.  force7

On the other side (the Good Side), is now called the Resistance.  The Resistance we learn quickly is being guided by a new General, General Leia (Carrie Fisher).  General Leia is trying to find the same thing the First Order is searching out, the whereabouts of Luke Skywalker.  Skywalker has gone into hiding after one of his students had turned to the Dark Side of the Force.  force4

Force Awakens starts with a high intense scene where we meet BB8 (new R2d2) like robot and the best pilot in the Resistance Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac).  Things happen and Poe leaves the planet and BB8 along with something they were after on the planet as well.  We also meet Ray (Daisy Ridley) a young girl awaiting her families arrival.  While waiting she runs into Finn (John Boyega) who is a Storm Trooper that has chosen to change sides and wants to join the Resistance.  force5

This part of the movie couldn’t come fast enough when we meet Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), and Han Solo (Harrison Ford).  These two are starting up right where we left off.   They are great in the flick going back and fourth.  Ford makes some of his great one-liners that we have al missed for the last 30 years.

This is all I can say without having to put the word spoiler in my review.  I promise I have not given anything away, everything I wrote about the flick is in the trailers.  All the new actors that are portraying key characters in the continuation of the Star Wars story shine in Force Awakens.  They are all out of this world good.

I Grade THE FORCE AWAKENS an A.  Yes, Abrams follows A New Hope (4) as a model, but is that a bad thing?  I don’t think so !!  I think this is the most seamless Star Wars flick.  The action never stops so before you sit down be sure you have used the restrooms, because you will miss something if you leave the theater for anything.  As a Star Wars fan this flick is everything I had wished for and more.  It will leave you breathless when you leave the theater, and you will want to see it again and again.

I am not sure I can wait for the continuation of the story that is scheduled to be released on May 26th, 2017.
