MACBETH – Review

MACBETH

Director Justin Kurzel brings us a very bloody flick with his Macbeth.  This is the version that Shakespeare had pictured while writing his play.  I didn’t think we needed another version of Macbeth until I saw the flick this afternoon.  The reason is two fold Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.  They are both amazing and all movie lovers should see the flick just because of them.  macbeth4

We open this Macbeth with the funeral of a child.  Yes, this is the child of Lady Macbeth (Marion Cotillard) and Macbeth (Michael Fassbender).  We next visit Macbeth on the battlefield, and these battlefield scenes are gory, bloody, but they are a work of art.  With Slow- Motion action, blood spatters, all the medieval weapons, this is not a flick for everyone, but if you like battle scenes this is for you.macbeth3

Kunzel stays with the story from here on out.  He does add some characters thought there is a kid with the three witches, and I really couldn’t tell you why.  They give Macbeth the prophecy that he would become King one day.  Marion then guides Macbeth in the murder of Duncan (David Thewlis) who is the King.  Macbeth then takes over the Crown.

One thing Macbeth learns quickly is how hard it is to hold on to his power.  He believes everyone is after his crown and this moves him into his madness.  This is a role many have tried to take on, but have failed.  Fassbender does an amazing job playing a crazy king.  We have all seen Macbeth but not with actors and actresses take on the main roles.  My favorite scene is the way they redid the Lady Macbeth Out damn spot scene.  I loved the way it is filmed and Cotillard does an amazing job.macbeth5

I think both Fassbender and Cotillard should get nominated for there performances.  Kunzel does an amazing job bringing his beautiful vision of Macbeth on the screen.  He got the actors to bring his vision out.  I grade this flick an A-.  If you like Macbeth and films this is the one to see.
