Paper Towns

Written by the same person who brought you The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns is another teen movie giving you a little bit of comedy and a little bit of sadness. What I was afraid of with this movie was that it was going to be the same amount of sadness that the Fault in Our Stars gave us. I’m happy to report this movie does not do that, don’t get me wrong I love a tear jerker as much as the next girl but sometimes you just want a little happiness.

I love the way Paper Towns starts, at the beginning, showing Quentin, played by Nat Wolff and Margo, played by Cara Delevingne first met. Margo and her family moved into the Florida neighborhood where Quentin and his family already lived. Quentin was in love with Margo from day one. Two peas in a pod, they did everything together, riding their bikes around and being kids. One day they were out doing what kids do when they came across a dead body. An older gentleman had shot himself in their neighborhood, and was found lying there by Quentin and Margo. Quentin went on with life and it didn’t really affect him much, Margo on the other hand was affected by this. It made her love mysteries. Everything was a mystery to her and if she could she made her own life a mystery too. As these years went by Margo and Quentin went their separate ways, until they were in high school and just two people passing each other in the halls.

Quentin has his two best friends, Ben, played by Austin Abrams and Radar played by Justice Smith. The boys are the typical teenage senior boys who are ready to make the most of their final weeks of high school. One night after Quentin is asleep at home his bedroom window opens and a girl makes her way into his room, he quickly realizes that its Margo. She’s there to ask for Quentin’s help. She needs a car to “right some wrongs” that were recently done to her. After just a little persuasion from Margo, Quentin agrees to go along with Margo and be her driver. Margo quickly explains that her boyfriend has been cheating on her with one of her good friends and her best friend has known about it all along. What better way to get back at them then to leave them all with a few notes and items just from Margo. Quentin and Margo spent the entire night together having the best time of their lives. It was a night that would change Quentin forever. paper3

After going home and getting some rest Quentin can’t wait to get to school the next morning to see Margo and start something new with her. The problem is Margo doesn’t comet to school. After several days Quentin comes home to find a police officer in his house. Margo’s parents are looking for her, she’s “run away,  again”. After talking to the police and realizing he spent the last moments with her he starts to wonder if maybe she left some clues on where she went. He quickly enlists the help of his best friends, Ben and Radar to track Margo down. While on the journey to find Margo they end up making some amazing memories with some friends they didn’t expect.

Paper Towns was a surprise for me, I wasn’t expecting it to be the movie it was. I laughed quite a bit, and felt like I knew the main characters. It was a pretty good movie and a fun night out with my daughter and I. Paper Towns is worth your time if you feel like seeing a movie this weekend. I give this movie a B-. I  hope you enjoy it too.
