RIO 2 – Review

Rio 2

We were really excited to go see Rio 2. Our boys instantly loved Blu, Jewel and all the supporting characters from the first film. As a family we were excited to catch up with our Rio friends to find out what they’ve been up to and what adventure they would take us on next. Would it be as fun as the first? Would the music and songs be as catchy and memorable as the first film? The answers to all of these questions are an astounding yes.r21

In the sequel Jewel (Anne Hathaway) who is thrilled not to be endangered any more convinces Blu (Jesse Eisenberg) to take a trip with their children to the rainforest when a flock of blue macaws is discovered deep in the Amazon.  Blu has his work cut out for him to try and fit in as he meets Jewel’s father Eduardo (Andy Garcia) and childhood friend Roberto (Bruno Mars). Pushing a very environmental message, Blu, Jewel and their friends team up with Eduardo and his flock to defend their habitat against illegal loggers.r24

In addition an old foe shows back up in Nigel (Jermaine Clement) the white cockatoo as he teams up with new characters Gabi (Kristen Chenoweth) the toxic frog and Charlie (inspired by Charlie Chaplin) the anteater determined to get revenge on Blu.

This sequel is everything you could want in a follow up to Rio. It doesn’t break the mold but stays true to the tone and is just as entertaining as its predecessor. The characters everyone fell in love with from the first one are all back with the addition of some fantastic new ones. Gabi in particular stands out from the crowd as Kristen Chenoweth is flawless in the role. The animation is spectacular and the music is just as catchy as you will find yourself moving in your seats to the beat of each song. This movie is a must see for any fan of the first movie and is just an overall great family movie.
