Martha Marcy May Marlene

Elizabeth Olsen yes the younger sister of Mary-Kate & Ashley stars in this flick Directed by Sean Durkin. The whole story is a very weird somewhat depressing story, but Olsen is amazing. She is the best actress in the family and should get a Oscar nod.

We first see Martha(Olsen) as she is running away from what we learn is a small cult. One of the cult members finds her in a restaurant in town and tells her to take care, but the tone we hear is a scary one. This is when she calls her older sister Lucy (Sarah Paulson) and asks her to come get her.

The rest of the flick is the emotional battle Martha has trying to live away from the cult and the flash backs she keeps having. The way Durkin fades in and out of the flash backs giving us little pieces of her life in the cult for 2 years. We learn of the mind games that the leader of the cult Patrick (John Hawkes) has put on her. Hawkes is also really creepy and great in this flick expect some awards for him as well.

Martha then has problems relating to her sister and letting her know what happened to her. I think Martha wanted to talk about the situation, but just couldn’t process everything that had happened to her, also if it was right or wrong. We get lost in her mind because of the great Direction from Durkin. We all wanted to yell at her when she calls the cult to put the phone down, and then feel terrified when the phone rings back.

I can’t express to you how Olsen plays a character that has lost her mind because of the traumatic experiences she has had. Olsen takes us there like no other actress could. The whole story is crazy and sad, but very entertaining. I was on the edge of my seat the whole flick.

I give this flick an A. Look for some nominations from the cast and story line around award time. I did hear some people say they didn’t like it, but if you are a true Flick lover you will enjoy this Flick!
